About Us

Pete Schoonmaker is owner and operator of both Viking Woodworking LLC and Simple Green Cabinets. In 2005 Pete launched Viking Woodworking as a custom casework and furniture builder business. The 10,000 square foot shop is located in Pittsburgh's historic South Side at 41 S. 3rd Street. Look for a talented group of cabinetmakers and furniture builders on-site.

Prior to starting Viking Woodworking LLC, Pete worked as a project superintendent in the commercial construction business and managed the construction of several notable buildings in the Pittsburgh landscape.

Simple Green Cabinets was created with the goal of providing environmentally friendly built cabinetry constructed using locally-sourced materials built by local owners. A homegrown business that is consumer driven, Simple Green is unique to its market and differentiated by its operations and client-base.

Better yet, all of our materials and methods qualify for LEED certification. The plywood that we use meets similar requirements while our hardwoods are regionally harvested from managed forests. Imagine this... we even take the time to distribute our eco-friendly sawdust to local urban gardens.

Homegrown, eco-friendly, locally built, delivered direct to you. The way it used to be.

At our shop, we build "green" cabinets and casework. We are equipped for either one-of-a-kind pieces or larger runs of cabinets if needed. Our expertise lies in custom work and other efficiencies.

Our continuous education in knowing and using the very latest environmentally friendly materials enables us to stay ahead of the market. We house an extensive array of green samples in our shop enabling a wide variety from which our clients may choose. We work with all types of resin panels, veneers and architectural panels.

At Viking and Simple Green, we thoroughly enjoy what we do. Our commitment is unparalleled. It is reflected in our work ethic, extensive client base, reputation, client-satisfaction and most of all, in our finished products.
